Shockingly, the most important piece of the WWF in 1999 was the heartbreaking mischance that killed Owen Hart. Not a year passes by that WWE fans recall what happened in late May more than 15 years prior. 

Owen's sibling, Bret, left the WWF in 1997 after the notorious Montreal Screwjob. For a considerable length of time, Bret said he had no second thoughts in regards to leaving the WWF. That is, until the mischance. 

Bret expressed in his 2005 DVD talk with that his just lament about leaving the WWF in 1997 was that he wasn't still with the organization in 1999 to deter Owen from doing the trick which eventually murdered him. Knowledge of the past is 20/20 however; Owen had effectively done likewise stunt in late 1998.
